When we finally did get out of bed, we were welcomed by the tantalizing smells of french toast! One can only eat hotel breakfasts for so long! The french toast was just as welcome as dinner the night before. It was good to have a nice, simple, home cooked breakfast for once. We finally left Charlotte at noon, and got back on the road!
After traveling for about an hour and a half we discovered that we were on the wrong freeway! After pulling off the road, looking at our maps and GPS, we figured out that we could get back on the right freeway with a small 30 minute detour(later tonight we found out that we could have taken the "wrong" freeway, and that it would have only been about seven miles longer than the "right" freeway!). At this point, Shayla began to get a little frustrated. The long drive was beginning to wear on all of us. I don't think she'll ever drive across the country with me ever again!
To add to all of our frustrations, we found out today that the moving company won't be able to deliver our stuff 'till Wednesday! We had scheduled with them to have it delivered Tuesday, which is why we were planning on arriving on Tuesday. Now we are going to get home to an empty apartment, and have to sleep on the floor for a night!
The detour and the new freeway did take us through some pretty specatular country, however. We have been skirting the Appalachian and Blue Ridge Mountains all afternoon. The leaves are starting to turn shades of golden yellow and brilliant red. Farmhouses dot the hillsides, and mountain peaks jut out above the tops of the trees. Rolling grass-covered hills are everywhere, and we even saw a few deer!
We were hoping to make it all the way to the DC area tonight, but the kids woke up, Max wanted to get out, and I was getting pretty tired myself. We are crashing for the night at yet another hotel! This one is in Woodstock, Virginia, about 90 miles from our apartment. Tommorrow we will finally be there!
