It's a Grandmacation!

When Wyatt was born, my mom chose not to come visit right at his birth, but a couple months later when we were a little more settled with our new little one. This worked out perfectly, as Shayla's mom was here when Wyatt was born, and so it gave our kids a chance to spend time with each grandma one at a time.

My mom gave us a kit to make a growth chart board for Christmas last year, and we still hadn't gotten around to putting it together. When she got here, she was more than happy to help us out with it. She bought a board from Home Depot, sanded, painted, and stained it, and then added the numbers and measurement lines. It turned out great and will be a great way for our kids to measure how tall they grow each year.

While my mom was here, things were pretty busy at work and I wasn't able to take much time off, so Shayla and the kids showed her around our community and had a great time spending their days with her. One of the stops they made was Great Country Farms. We have been to this place a couple times for pumpkin and strawberry picking, and our kids always have a great time. Since Halloween was over the farm was nearly empty, so they had the place all to themselves.

My mom doesn't get to spend many birthdays with her grandkids (Max was the exception and I think was the first birthday she's been to since moving to Alaska) so when she visits she has a special Unbirthday party for them. The party started with pizza for dinner, followed by presents and birthday donuts complete with birthday candles for blowing out. The kids really loved the attention from their grandma and we all had a fun evening celebrating our unbirthdays.

The day before my mom left to go home, we took her to our favorite geocaching spot. Max and Isla loved showing her the way to the cache and picking out their treasures. We also walked down the trail to an old restored barn and played around on bales of hay that looked like they were left over from a maze.

The next day was the last of my mom's trip. Her flight didn't leave 'till later in the afternoon. I was able to take this day off work and spend some time with her before she left. We hit the playground by our old apartment complex that morning. We would visit this park often when we lived there and it was fun going back to see the playground and some of our favorite spots along the small stream nearby.

We all had a great time while grandma was here and we can't wait until she can visit again!
