Almost Spring!

The weather around these parts has drastically improved over the last week. We are thoroughly enjoying sunny 60 degree days, birds chirping in the trees, and (mostly) snow free ground. Only the big piles left from the snowplows and some parts hidden in shadows and trees have yet to melt!

Last weekend, with a slight breeze in the air, we took to the park with kites in tow. The wind was a little chilly, and a bit too erratic to sustain any real prolonged kite flight, but we loved being outside and both kids loved being able to run around on the large grassy field (even if it was completely covered with deer poop).

Before we went to the park, we stopped at Target and picked up a kite for Max. It was rolled up inside a tube, but the dragon picture on the outside was enough for Max to decide that it was the one he wanted. When we got it out and put it together, it turned out to be just a little smaller than what we were expecting. Shayla said it reminder her of the little dragon from the Disney movie Mulan.

Max didn't care how small it was. He loved it! We had a lot of fun trying to get the kites up in the air, and we were even lucky enough to get some half-decent wind after a while.

Isla loved watching the kites in the sky, and whenever one would come down (which was often) she was right there with Max, waiting to catch it! I was a little worried that she would get a bit scared when they got close to her, but she didn't seem to mind one bit.

After our kites had had enough and were too exhausted to keep flying, we went on a small "nature hike" (that's what we told Max it was, so he wouldn't be scared of the "ghosts in the forest") . After a short hike through the trees and around the melting drifts of snow and their muddy remains, we ended up at the edge of a lake.

By now the sun was sitting low on the horizon, so we headed back to the truck and stopped at Johnny Rockets for dinner. Max was pretty excited when they brought him his own hat to wear. It was the perfect ending to a perfect early spring day.

How fun! Max look so cute in his glasses. Is he starting to wear them more? Does he have to get a patch at all?

Max is pretty good at wearing his glasses now. And sometimes he will even ask to wear them!

He does have a patch, but he's not so good at wearing that. Sometimes we can talk him into playing pirates and he'll wear it for 30 minutes or so, but that's usually only once or twice a week.
