Living it up, Delta style!

If you ever find yourself with a Labor Day holiday and absolutely nothing to do, just head on up to Delta, Utah! Anyone whose anybody knows that the first weekend in September is the place to be! Well, it's the place to be if you're a Losee!

We pulled in to the city park at about 12:30 Saturday afternoon. It was already bustling with cousins, aunts, and uncles, and still more were arriving every minute! It's probably pretty safe to say that on Labor Day weekend, the population of the town doubles!

We enjoyed the regular reunion activities of a big lunch, an accordion band, and an auction that, unfortunately, was cut a little short this year due to a sudden burst of rain and wind. We also made a stop at the Delta Deseret Industries for a little thrift shop shopping!

After having way too much fun at the park we headed over to the only four star hotel in Millard County! The local Days Inn is truly a spectacular place to stay. Our room was furnished with two queen size beds, a television with remote, and a small fridge. Max immediately stuffed the fridge full of Kleenex tissue, coffee filters, small bars of soap and paper cups.

Early that evening we left the luxurious confines of the Days Inn and headed out of town to the hard pan. For those who aren't in the know, the hard pan is a glorious expanse of hard-packed dirt and sagebrush. It is extremely flat and hard. It is amazing. The traditional hot dog roasting,
dirt digging, BYU game listening on crackly car radios, fire watching, talking, laughing, and letting kids run wild through the deserting ensued!

It was a lot of fun and the hard pan has become the highlight of our annual migration to Delta. Curiously however, this year lacked the annual marshmallow fight that has been tradition for at least the last seven years that I have attended. We'll have to make sure that doesn't happen again the next time we are there.

It was a lot of fun and we spent the next day at Shayla's grandpa's house, venturing out on occasion to smash pennies and see how fast we could run before packing up and heading home.

Here's Max showing off his piñata skills for all the ladies. Max was the only kid there that decided the hard pan would be better enjoyed by removing his shirt and shoes. We thought he was just being weird. Looking at this picture though, helps us to see what his real motive was! Easy Max, they're all cousins!


After the piñata broke, Max forgot all about the girls oogling his bulging biceps and immediately dove in, snatching up as many green tootsie rolls as he could get his grubby little hands on!


Max got to enjoy the finer things of life. Like a Twinkie!
